Driving with Headlights

For five weeks now, the studio has opened its doors to new faces, new friends, new ideas and a growing expectation that a new community is being born. I am so thankful. If I could sum up how I feel from the past five weeks it would simply be that I am grateful. There have been ups and downs. Moments of elation and moments of "why on earth did I saddle myself with this responsibility?" But the more I meet you all and the more we talk I am reassured that this space has been needed and wanted and that there are plans in the making for it. I don't currently know all of those plans, but I know that they are coming.

In one of my favorite books by Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird, she writes about the process of writing, "E.L. Doctorow once said that 'Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can see only as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.' You don't have to see where you're going, you don't have to see your destination or everything you will pass along the way. You just have to see two or three feet ahead of you." The same is true for starting a new business. I can only see three feet ahead of me but I'm very excited about the journey ahead. Each one of you who has come into the studio has made an impact on me in big and small ways. Thank you for being a part of the journey. You're welcome to put your feet up on the dashboard while we cruise.

This week past we began having tea time after our 9:30am class. We will continue that once a week on Mondays. Tuesday and Thursday morning classes have evolved into an 8am versus 6am; I breathe a sigh of relief with this change. A new Instructor, Monica Hernandez-Lara is now teaching on Thursday evenings at 7pm. She teaches Pranakriya yoga and she is lovely! Please note that she operates independently and therefore charges a separate fee from my classes and class passes. Emily continues to teach dance for kids on Mondays and Wednesdays. Samantha Mortimer teaches Pound on Saturday mornings at 8am which is an absolute blast.

While the schedule has been changing dramatically the last few weeks, I believe we have found our sweet spot to get us through the summer. I anticipate more changes in the schedule to take place in September. Thank you for being a part of this journey.
